Only 11% of Adults Use Chiropractic Care Each Year. Here’s Why the Other 89% Feel It.

According to national data from the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, only about 11% of U.S. adults use chiropractic care in a given year. That means nearly 9 out of 10 people go without regular nervous system and spinal support, even though their bodies are constantly adapting to physical and environmental stress.

Chiropractic care is not something the body only benefits from in one season. It supports movement, adaptability, and nervous system function year-round and over the course of a lifetime.

However, certain seasons place greater demands on the body.

Winter is one of them.

Why Some Seasons Are More Taxing Than Others

Every season asks something different of the body.

Spring brings increased activity and sudden movement changes.

Summer adds longer days, higher physical demands, and travel.

Fall introduces new routines, schedules, and transitions.

Winter combines cold, reduced movement, stress, and seasonal illness.

It does not create problems on its own. Winter simply adds multiple stressors at once, which can make existing tension, compensation patterns, or fatigue more noticeable.

This is often when people begin to feel the effects of a body that has been quietly adapting all year.

How Our Philosophy Fits Every Season

Chiropractic care is based on the understanding that the nervous system coordinates how the body adapts to stress, whether that stress is physical, emotional, or environmental.

Adjustments are not about reacting to one season or one symptom. They are about supporting the nervous system so the body can respond more efficiently to whatever demands are present.

That support matters in every season.

It simply becomes more noticeable during times when stress stacks faster, such as winter.

Why Winter Often Reveals the Need for Support

Cold weather does not cause illness, stiffness, or fatigue on its own. However, winter conditions can amplify stress.

People move less and sit more. Muscles stay tighter. Sunlight exposure decreases. Stress and disrupted routines increase. Seasonal illness becomes more common, placing additional demand on the body.

When the body is already adapting to these factors, even small inefficiencies can feel bigger.

This is why many people first notice discomfort, stiffness, or low energy during the winter months.

Why We Encourage Staying Consistent With Care During Taxing Seasons and Beyond

At FOSTERing Wellness, we often recommend keeping your chiropractic schedule throughout all seasons.

During winter, when the body is under increased stress, the nervous system is working harder. Supporting it during these times can help the body adapt more efficiently.

This does not mean ignoring rest. If someone has a fever or needs to reschedule, listening to the body always comes first.

In many cases, we will still recommend keeping your adjustment schedule or rescheduling for a later time but we don’t recommend replacing an adjustment.

Consistency is not about pressure — it’s about support.

And our philosophy is simple: nervous system first.

Wellmentum Is Built Across the Year and Tested in Harder Seasons

At Fostering Wellness, we often talk about Wellmentum.

Wellmentum is created year-round through regular care, movement, and recovery. Taxing seasons like winter simply test whether Wellmentum is there.

When care has been consistent, the body transitions through demanding seasons more smoothly. When support has been sporadic, those seasons tend to feel heavier.

Preparing for the Months Ahead Without Waiting for Symptoms

Spring, summer, and fall are often more active and physically demanding.

The body that enters those seasons supported, responds differently than the one that enters already under strain.

Chiropractic care is not about preparing for one season only. It is about helping the body stay adaptable through all of them.

Winter simply happens to be a time when the need for support becomes easier to feel.

Chiropractic Care Is a Year-Round Strategy

Most people wait until their body demands attention.

Chiropractic care works best when it is part of an ongoing strategy to support function, adaptability, and resilience across the entire year.

Some seasons are simply more taxing than others.

At FOSTERing Wellness, our goal is to help your body stay supported through every season so you can move forward feeling capable, steady, and prepared, no matter what time of year it is.

A Thoughtful Next Step

If you have been meaning to get back into care but life got busy, winter can be a helpful reminder to reconnect with your body.

Skipped adjustments add up over time, especially during more taxing seasons. Getting back on schedule can help restore and support the season you’re in.

If you have never seen a chiropractor before, this may be the right time to start. Whether you are dealing with pain, stiffness, or simply looking to add meaningful nervous system support to your overall wellness journey, chiropractic care offers a way to support how your body functions and how you feel.

You do not need to wait for things to get worse. Support works best when it is proactive, consistent, and aligned with what your body needs now.

At FOSTERing Wellness, we help people move, feel, and live better through chiropractic care and whole-body-wellness.

That’s Wellmentum.
