THE RESEARCH SAYS “YES!” NOT ONLY THAT, THIS METHOD CAN HELP AVOID THE OPIOID ADDICTION TRAP!
No less than the highly esteemed British Medical Journal (BMJ) recently published a study that says “Initial visits to CHIROPRACTORS or physical therapists is associated with substantially decreased early and long-term use of opioids. Incentivising use of conservative therapists may be a strategy to reduce risks of early and long-term opioid use.”
Neck and back pain are two of the most common reasons people seek medical attention. Almost all of us know someone or numerous “someones” who have suffered an episode of low back pain or neck pain. Almost all of us know someone who has missed work because of these costly conditions. They are costly because the medical establishment has not had a very effective way of addressing this debilitating pain, and when they do, they have often prescribed “pain killers” also known as opioids. These are highly addictive and cost our society in so many ways. Back pain costs “billions” every year to our economy, in lost work time (affecting the economy of both the worker and the business) medical office visits, hospital ER visits, expensive diagnostic procedures, and the costs of dealing with patients who unwittingly become addicted to these drugs.
Several states are now considering the present data and are putting forward legislation to recommend all cases of low back pain and other musculoskeletal pain syndromes are first referred to chiropractors and physical therapists.
